sneak in a workout

Sometimes we get so caught up in the day we completely forget about ourselves. We forget to brush our hair yet alone workout. Having kids is tough: you’re constantly running around and running errands. Unfortunately non of these “running around activities” give way to a work out. But hey they’re are multiple tricks to sneak in a workout here and there. Allocating an hour of the day could be tough but break it down to segments of 20 minutes throughout the day and all of a sudden its much more doable.

So lets see how you can sneak in a work out:

1. When you’re still in bed.

You woke up, whats the first thing you do: check your phone, what time it is, jump out to make breakfast? Well how about you stay there for another two minutes. Remove the blanket and do 10 leg lifts. Do this every day and you’ll see how strong your legs and core will be (especially in conjunction with some of the other sneaky exercise routines here.) In a week go up to 15 leg lifts. I promise it will only take a few minutes of your time and you will feel better and jump start your metabolism.

2. While you’re brushing your teeth.

Hear me out on this one. We brush our teeth for about 3 minutes in the morning and 3 minutes in the evening. Thats a total of about 6 minutes a day: we could be working out during this time! Next time you go to brush your teeth take a step back from the sink and start doing squats. Start this today, trust me you’ll wonder why you’ve never thought of it before.

3. Kegel Exercises ?

We all know the importance of kegel exercises however, we often times simply forget about them. The pelvic floor muscles support the womb, the bladder, and the bowels. If the muscles are weak, these pelvic organs may lower into a woman’s vagina. Besides extreme discomfort, this can also cause urinary incontinence. But come on girls, we all do it for the stronger orgasms!

I would commute on the train to and from work and guess what I’d be doing during that train ride to work… yup, kegels. Off course there where days I would totally forget but most of the time I would sit on the train and exercise (and know one would know.)

4. Go For A Walk Or Run.

Get the stroller packed with toys and snacks so the little one wont get cranky and go out for a speed walk in the neighborhood. You’ll break a sweat and expose your child to some fresh air while doing so.

If your child is slightly older and can run. Have a running competition, remember children are inherently very active so keep up with them. Run around and play tag.

5. Be A Kid Again On The Playground

If you go to the playground don’t just sit on the bench and wait (that gets rather boring) get out there and move. Do some pushups off the benches, lounges going forward and back, jump rope, get on the monkey bars. Theres so much to do other than just sit and wait so get moving. You will also provide your child with a great example. They will see how strong you are and strive to that themselves. Lead by example!

6. Remember Those Workout Videos?

You know what I’m talking about, the workout video fad when everyone was trying to sell you a video and would guarantee a miracle transformation. Well now there’s youtube. Find a funny workout video and start working out to it with your children somewhere close. They may laugh at first but will shortly join in on the fun. It will be a fun family workout until they beat you at your own game, so keep up.

Most importantly have fun with everything you do. And remember kids are active by nature so incorporate your workout’s with them. They’ll have fun as long as they’re moving and you’ll feel better and will take care of your health. Plus it’s an opportunity for some family bonding time, everyone could use more of that. Remember to take care of yourself: your health, your diet, beauty routine. We may have kids but we’re still invincible. Actually having kids made us invincible.
