Buy Buy Babies R Us

For my first kiddo, I did what I assumed every parent did when it was time to register for my baby shower. I went to Babies R Us, sat down at one of the desks and received my free water bottle and a folder full of what seemed like endless lists of “things I needed”.  It was a one stop shop for all of it, and outside of feeling like I was little off base on what I thought I could do without and what I thought were necessities, it was a pretty good experience.

Preparing for Baby Brother

Preparing for Baby Brother

I have known that I want more kids since the second I met my son, Lake. But, as I await the arrival of my second son, I realize that there are a lot of things about adding another kiddo that are not that straight forward. For instance, how and when do you evict baby number one from the nursery? How much do you talk about or tell your little one about the arrival of baby? What does labor and delivery look like in terms of care for your older child? How does the introduction go? The first days home from the hospital?

Kid Clothes- How to get Ahead and Save Money

Kid Clothes- How to get Ahead and Save Money

Before I had my son, I got a lot of advice from my sisters and mom regarding what you “need” and “don’t need” before baby comes. Specifically, I was told that emphatically you did not need more than a couple of newborn outfits because “we have big babies” and he will be out of them in a week. I followed this advice and was fully stocked with 0-3 month and 3-6 month clothes all washed in Dreft and hung up, just waiting for my little chunky monkey to get home.

Toddler or Circus Animal?

Toddler or Circus Animal?

When I first found out I was pregnant, I was absolutely overwhelmed by the double sided information that I was finding regarding the do’s and don’ts of pregnancy. When my son was born, I was overwhelmed again by all of the “rules” regarding things like schedule, feeding, exposure…etc. When he became mobile, I was inundated yet again with all of the requirements of “child proofing” and what was OK in terms of discipline and other such issues. One of the issues that I saw a lot of folks express their opinions about was the use of Play Pens.

Have You Been Mom Shamed ?

Have You Been Mom Shamed ?

Let me start with this... mom shaming in general, is simply unfounded and wrong. I simply do not understand the concept of it. Who came up with this? Shouldn't we be helping one another, giving advice, talking about past experiences, supporting one another? I think Yes!

To Pacify or not to Pacify, that is the Question

To Pacify or not to Pacify, that is the Question

When my son was born he had pretty severe acid reflux. He had a couple of hours a day that he would spend unexplainably upset and he was constantly having what they call “inverted spit up” (when the stomach acid and breast milk get into the esophagus and begin going up the nose and never actually come out- ouch.). His breath smelled like Mac n’ Cheese and we went through an entire bottle of gripe water per week. One of the things that seemed to help us, and keep him swallowing and developing those muscles, was a pacifier.
