In general, babies eat when they're hungry and stop when they're full. Appetites vary among babies, and each baby's nutritional needs change from day to day and month to month. That may sound complicated, but if you follow the feeding charts printed on each box and check in regularly with your baby's doctor, your baby will likely be on track.
The primary difference between our Infant-Formula (stage 1) and Follow-On Formula (stage 2,3,4) is the balance of milk proteins. Both formulas have whey and casein proteins, but in different proportions.
There is also an increase in iron and filling ingredients such as starch to help wean off of formula and introduce more solid foods in the later stages.
Stages marked as PRE should not be confused with Premie or Preterm Birth. PRE milk formulas normally contain no starch so you are able to feed more to your baby on a 3 hour schedule.
As a child grows and changes, so do his nutritional requirements. To ensure your baby is getting all of the nutrients he needs to grow and thrive, we highly recommend you use the stage of formula that corresponds with his age. Formula manufacturers like Hipp and Holle have spent many years perfecting formulations to ensure every stage of your baby’s dietary needs is met.
Please note that there is not much difference in the later stages that would warrant a switch on a specific date. You can move forward, or behind a few weeks.
Once the foil sealed bag of formula is open, it has a storage life of 2 weeks. Due to environmental factors such as air, humidity, and temperature, which can impact its quality of freshness we recommend storing the opened formula in a glass or stainless steal container to ensure short-term freshness. HiPP Milk Formulas have a longer storage life of 3 weeks.
Yes, by boiling the water you are eliminating bacteria that is present and any possible contaminations that may be harmful for your baby.
The ratio is 1:1, 1 oz of water per 1 scoop.
There are a few things to consider when answering this question, such as what size is the box, how often is your baby eating, and are they exclusively fed formula or just being supplemented. Generally, 1 box of 400g and 500g lasts about 4-5 days, whereas the bigger boxes of 600g and 800g lasts about 5-6 days.
The products we sell are fresh and generally have a shelf life of more than a year. On rare occasions we may have products with a less extended shelf life but rest assure the product is safe to use until the expiration date. Expiration dates are always located on the products and listed on the product page. Please be advised that expiration dates are in an European format, DD/MM/YYYY, instead of the standard American version MM/DD/YYYY.
Each stage is intended for a specific age and is formulated to meet the nutritional needs for the baby’s relative age. Stage Pre and stage 1 are intended for babies from birth to 6 months/onwards. For following stages please see the information listed on each product page.

In Europe, organic products are clearly identified by the "bio" or "organic" label. The EU organic logo seen above is to be used on packaged organic products with the EU origin and indication of the inspection body. These instructions can be found on the label, packaging or loose goods - such as fruits and vegetables - on the box or on the shelf. Since 1991, an EU law has stipulated in detail which products may be designated as organic, how their labels may appear and what information must be on the label. The authorities are always fighting against abusive use of organic labeling and impose fines or even imprisonment for illegal use.
They allow the use of the terms "bio" or "organic" in the same sense only for foods that have been produced and processed in accordance with the regulations and whose manufacturers have been controlled accordingly. However, the protection of the regulation goes much further: it includes all the terms that give the impression that the product is a bio-product. Frequently, but not always, the sales description of a organic food already contains the component "bio" or "organic". For example, organic foods are presented to consumers as "organic apple juice", "organic potatoes" or "organic oatmeal". Also with the words "from bio farming" or "from organic farming" can be stated if it is an organic product. In any case, it must be stated in the ingredient list of the product which ingredient has been biologically produced by asterisks on the respective ingredient.
A food may be termed "bio" or "organic" if at least 95% of its agricultural ingredients are organic. Products with less than 95% but more than 50% of agricultural ingredients from organic production may indicate organic quality in the list of ingredients, but do not carry the organic label and do not use the EU organic label.
A mandatory element on the label of each organic product is the indication of the organic inspection body that has checked the producer or processor for compliance with the legal requirements for organic farming and processing. For loose goods, this information is in the accompanying documents; the customer can ask the employees of the trading company for it at the store.
The codes of eco-control bodies in all EU countries are structured according to a uniform pattern. For example, for German-based inspection bodies the indication is "DE-ÖKO-002", where "DE" stands for Germany, "ÖKO" stands for an abbreviation of the origin of the product from organic farming and "002" or another three-digit number the control body. This number will be assigned by the supervising authorities to the respective control body.
For the particularly critical or curious consumers there is the possibility of full transparency: in a list of the Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food, you can see where the said organic inspection body is located and inquire at this control point, if the manufacturer or in-circulation bringer of the organic product was controlled and works in accordance with the law. The indication of the eco-control point on the product makes it easier for all market participants to trace the product origin.
EU organic regulations state that all organic food produced or processed in EU Member States must bear the European Union's organic logo, a horizontal rectangle in light green color with a silhouette of a leaf made of the stars of the EU in white. Organic products from non-EU countries may but do not have to carry the EU organic logo.
If the EU organic logo is used, it is mandatory to provide a geographical indication of origin of the ingredients.
• "EU agriculture", provided that at least 98% of the agricultural ingredients come from the EU.
• "non-EU agriculture" for such Products whose geographical origin is at least 98% in non-EU countries and "EU / non-EU agriculture" for all other products.
The reference to a particular country of origin is also permitted if at least 98% of the agricultural ingredients come from that country.
Stages marked as "PRE" should not be confused with Premie or Preterm Birth.
These milk formulas normally contain no starch so you are able to feed more to your baby on a 3 hour schedule. These still can be used for several months after birth. Always check with your Neonatologist (Newborn Infant Doctor).
The most common difference is an increase in iron.
There are also more filling ingredients such as starch to help wean off of formula and introduce more solid foods.

ABOUT ORGANIC BABY FORMULA FROM GERMANY
Unlike formulas from the USA or Canada, German organic formulas are produced without using artificial flavors, GMOs or any toxic substances. Healthy and happy Cows or Goats that can graze on lush fields and pastures are the reason for the extraordinary quality.

A TRUSTED COMPANY THAT HAS CREATED THE HEALTHIEST AND SAFEST FORMULA.
Since the very beginning, over 75 years ago, Holle has focused on naturalness and the use of pesticides or chemical fertilisers are strictly prohibited without any compromises. Today they are still using only raw ingredients grown to biodynamic or organic standards (Demeter) for their premium organic baby food. This is basis for the exceptional quality in the Holle baby food. Healthy and happy cows that can graze on lush fields and pastures - free of pesticides or chemical fertilizers.
Holle uses only the very best ingredients in their cow and goat milk organic formulas. Starting with well cared for, animals that pasture on lush biodynamic fields, Holle forms the base of their formula with the best milk available. After gentle processing to make the milk suitable for your baby’s digestive system, Holle adds in oils which contain essential fatty acids, organic maltodextrin and starch to make the formula creamy and sustaining and all the vitamins and minerals that will make your baby strong and healthy. They never use added sugars, chemicals, preservatives or synthetic ingredients. All of their ingredients are organic and GMO free.
Only strictly regulated partners are able to use the Demeter label.
These regulations are set by the Demeter Society, whose criteria extend far beyond the standard Organic Farming certification. From growing to processing, all stages of production are checked - without any compromises. Foods which carry the Demeter label have been grown to strict biodynamic standards - in harmony with nature. Whether soil, seeds, plants, animals or humans - each element in the agricultural system has its own uniquely important role to play. Each element supports and strengthens the others and in doing so creates a farm that is a natural and self-contained living organism.
The use of chemical and synthetic pesticides and fertilisers and GM technology are strictly prohibited in Demeter agriculture, as is the addition of questionable ingredients during processing. Grown in harmony with nature, Demeter certified grains are full of flavour and vitality. Holle only uses whole grains for their porridges. This makes sure your baby gets the most goodness from every mouthful. Holle cooks the grain using the very gentlest of methods and then finely ground them so every Holle porridge can be easily digested by young babies.
Quality through animal husbandry in a way that is natural to the species.
Animal husbandry in a way that is natural to each species has an effect on the composition of the cow's milk. It contains quite a lot of vitamin E and beta carotene. There is a high proportion of valuable omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in the fat. The taste of the Organic Milk is delicious and harmonious due to the proportion of herbs in the feed.

1899: J. HIPP’S RUSK FLOUR FACTORY IS ESTABLISHED
The Hipp family has passed down their love of nature and of their craft from generation to generation. Their forebears made beeswax candles and fine honey gingerbread. At the end of the 19th century, Joseph Hipp, a confectioner in Pfaffenhofen, had an idea that was revolutionary for the time: when his wife had problems nursing their twins, he used hand crushed rusks and milk to make the first baby cereal. News of his success spread, and the yellow and black packages of J. HiPP’s Rusk Flour became an established brand, laying the foundations for the family company. As the popularity of the flour grew, son Georg sold the product from door to door in Munich, until his parents’ premises grew too small and he founded his own company in 1932.
1956: GEORG HIPP BECOMES A PIONEER OF ORGANIC AGRICULTURE
In 1956 Georg Hipp developed a new industrial manufacturing process for baby food in jars. Gradually expanding his product range, he launched HiPP jars in 1959 as a practical, hygienic form of packaging. An encounter with the Swiss pioneer of organic-biological agriculture, Dr. Hans Müller, inspired him to adopt ecological production methods for fruit and vegetables. The first raw materials for HiPP products were grown on ecologically farmed fields from 1956 onwards. As a first step the family farm, Ehrensberger Hof near Pfaffenhofen, was wholly converted to organic farming.
1967: CLAUS HIPP TAKES OVER THE MANAGEMENT OF THE FAMILY COMPANY
After the death of Georg Hipp his 29-year-old son Claus took over the management of the company, increasingly broadening his father’s ecological ideas. While the organic pioneer then had to travel from farm to farm to win farmers over to his vision, HiPP today works with a network of over 6,000 contract farmers and is one of the largest processors of organically produced raw materials. Under the management of the three brothers Claus, Georg and Paulus Hipp, HiPP baby foods grew into one of Germany’s most popular brands and a symbol of entrepreneurial operations in line with ecological, economic and social sustainability. “The best from nature. The best for nature.” became the benchmark against which the growth of the family company and its product range were permanently measured.
TODAY: HIPP IS THE LEADER IN QUALITY AND SUSTAINABILITY
The name of HiPP has stood for ecological agriculture and sustainable values for over 50 years. The company works closely with environmental and ecological organisations, supporting a future free from genetic engineering and playing an active role in the “Biodiversity in Good Company Initiative” to protect biodiversity. HiPP was the first major European food producer to introduce an EMAS-based environmental management system, and continuously improves its ecobalance. Since the system was implemented in 1995, the company has succeeded in reducing its water consumption by two-thirds and its energy consumption by over one-half. 97 per cent of all waste is now recycled, and the HiPP sites in Germany, Austria and Hungary operate carbon-neutrally even though production has doubled and the company’s product range has expanded to over 260 different products.
